Reverend Ralph’s Famous Family French Toast
This recipe has been used at almost every bi-annual family reunion since 1966. It takes about 7 loaves of bread to feed that army of relatives! Ralph is always the chef!
Ingredients
Instructions
-
Slice loaf of bread into 1 inch slices. Let those stand unwrapped for a while to dry them out a bit.
Combine the eggs, cream and vanilla in a good sized bowl or dish. Mix well. Dip slices of bread into the egg mixture, covering both sides of bread completely, and allowing liquid to soak into the bread just a little.
Heat butter and enough oil to cover pan about 1/4 inch deep until quite hot. Carefully add soaked bread and cook slowly until both sides are golden brown.
Serve hot with powdered sugar or heated syrup. Add fruit, if desired.
